CATANIA
Catania is the second largest Sicilian city with a long history. It was founded in the 8th century BC, but was almost destroyed several times by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. On the other hand, volcanic ash provides fertile soil that is suitable for growing citrus and grape vines.

In Catania you will find the largest church in Sicily: the Church of St. Nicholas (Chiesa di San Nicoló). But the dominant feature of the city is the three-nave basilica, the Cathedral of St. Agates in Piazza Duomo. The castle of Byzantine origin, Castello Ursino, is also interesting, today you can find the headquarters of the Regional Museum in it. Hidden among the houses is the entrance to the Roman Theater (Teatro romano), an amphitheater for 7,000 spectators based on Greek foundations from the 5th century BC.

Don't forget to walk the main boulevard, which is called Via Etna. If you are struck by the presence of colorful elephant statues (they are all over Catania), then know that the elephant is the symbol of the city and also adorns the city's coat of arms.

If you are a fan of escape games, we can recommend AdventureRooms (https://www.adventurerooms.it/catania/). The Lost Temple and Atlantis can also be played in English or you almost don't need language skills, and it's a very pleasant experience both visually and in terms of gameplay.
